How to Get an FBI Apostille

Do you need an apostille on your FBI criminal background check?

We have created a short video to help explain how to obtain an FBI Criminal background check from an FBI Channeler and the steps you will need to take in order to mail-in your background check to our Washington, D.C. office for processing.

You can find a list of FBI approved channelers on our website who can assist you in obtaining your background check in less that one week.

Office of Authentications Apostille

Apostille FBIThe U.S. Department of State – Office of Authentications in Washington, D.C. attaches both apostilles and certificates.  Apostilles are attaches for countries who are members of the Hague Apostille Convention, while certificates are attaches for countries who are not members.

There are currently over 100 countries who are members of the Hague Apostille Convention.  If you plan to travel to, obtain dual-citizenship, study, work, or move to another country who is a member of the apostille convention, you will be required to provide an Apostille on your FBI background check.  The most popular countries we obtain FBI apostilles for are Spain, South Korea, Italy, Ecuador, Costa Rica, China, Russia and Panama.

Our office in Washington, D.C. submits FBI background checks to the U.S. Department of State every morning.  Documents received by 2pm are processed the following business morning.  The current processing time is four business days plus 1-2 business days for the return FedEx shipping.  We recommend that you mail-in your documents by FedEx, UPS, or DHL to our Washington, D.C. office in order to avoid any delays.

During the summer months (June, July, & August), our office processes hundreds of FBI background checks. Many FBI channelers routinely refer their client to us for expedited apostille service.  If you are in a time-crunch and need the fastest service in Washington, D.C., download our order forms and mail-in your documents to our office for processing.

Mailing your documents to the U.S. Department of State can be time-consuming.  If you have a job offer or another time-sensitive plan, you cannot risk mailing in your documents to the U.S. Government.  We can get you the apostille in four business days with FREE FedEx 1-2 day return shipping.  We also can provide you FedEx international priority shipping.  Call or email us for details.

Because of the recent changes in how the FBI channelers process FBI background checks, you can either request a digital copy or a hard copy.  If you receive your background check by email (digital copy), you can simply email us the background check with our order forms.  If you elect to receive your background check by mail (hard copy), all you will need to do is mail in your documents to our office.

FBI Apostille for Spain

Apostille for SpainDo you need an FBI Apostille for Spain?

If you are planning to work, travel too, obtain dual-citizenship, get married in, or move to the country of Spain, you may be asked to obtain an apostille on your FBI background check. Spain is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention and documents destined for this country will require an apostille from the U.S. Department of State.

If you are in the beginning stages and have not yet submitted your fingerprints directly to the FBI, we recommend that you contact an FBI Channeler to help expedite the background check process. In most cases, the FBI Channeler will be able to obtain the background check within one week. If you decide to go through the FBI directly, the processing time is 14-16 weeks. All questions related to obtaining your background check should be directed to the FBI Channeler.

In additional to the FBI Apostille, you may be asked to also have several other documents apostilled. For example, if you plan to get married in Spain, the country may request a certified copy of your birth certificate, divorce decree (If you are divorced) or single status affidavit. We can Apostille documents issued from all 50 U. S. States and the U.S. Federal Government. United States Apostille

The current processing time with the U.S. Department of State – Office of Authentications is 3-4 business days. Once we receive your documents, we will process them through the U.S. Department of the State the following business morning. The only documents you need to mail-in to our office is the FBI Background check, order form, and credit card authorization form. You do not need to mail in the DS 4194 form.

Apostilles can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the Nevada Apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you.

FBI Apostille for Ecuador

Do you need an FBI background check Apostille for the country of Ecuador?

If you are planning to retire in Ecuador, you will be asked to obtain an Apostille on an FBI background check.  We recommend that you contact an FBI channeler to help expedite the background check process.

Obtaining an FBI background check is one of several documents that will be requested by the country of Ecuador.  You will also be asked to obtain an Apostille on your birth certificate and your most recent Social Security Administration income and benefits statement. The same documents will also be requested from your spouse.  If you are currently in Ecuador, please call us or contact us through our website for specific instructions.

Order a new birth certificate: http://www.vitalcheck.com
Order a Social Security Income and Benefits Letter: http://www.ssa.gov/

The very first step is to contact an FBI Approved Channeler.  We recommend contacting a channeler because they can assist in expediting the FBI background check process.  You can either request a hard copy of your results by mail (hard copy) or request the results by email.  If you are outside of the United States, we recommend that you request your results by email.  The FBI Channeler cannot mail the background check results to our office.  You can, however, have the results sent to a family member or friend.  Once you receive your background check results (email or hard copy), you can then forward this document to our Washington, D.C. office for processing.

The second step is to mail or email your FBI background check results to us.  You will need to include our FBI Apostille order form and credit card authorization form. If a family or friend will be sending in your documents, be sure to scan and email to us our order form and credit card authorization form.  We will need these forms in order to process your documents.  That’s it!  It’s that simple!

The processing time with the U.S. Department of State is 3-4 business days (hard copy).  Background checks received by email can take 5-6 business days to complete.  If you require international shipping to Ecuador, please add an additional 2-3 business days.  International shipping rates apply.  Please contact us for details and cost.

William G. McKinsey / FBI Section Chief

If you are requesting an apostille on your FBI background check, your results may either be signed by Kimberly J. Del Greco or William G. Mckinsey.  Before we can begin to authenticate your document through the U.S. Department of State, you will need to obtain your results from an FBI Approved Channeler. Please note that the U.S. Department of State can only accept FBI background checks issued within the past 90 days.

Below is an example of an FBI background check signed by the new FBI Section Chief (CJIS), William G. McKinsey.  You can request this letter to either be emailed or mailed (hard copy) to your location.  In order to save time and money, we recommend that you contact an FBI Channeler to help expedite the background check process.

Note: We can apostille FBI background checks even if your results were e-mailed to you.  All you will need to do is forward this letter and password, if provided, to us for processing.  Be sure to include our order form and credit card authorization form.

International Apostille Services, Inc. is the leader in document authentication services in Washington, D.C.  We process hundreds of U.S. Government documents through the U.S. Department of State every month.  Call us M-Sa. from 8am to 7pm.  You can also Contact Us through our website.

FBI Criminal Record Check Apostille

US Department of State ApostilleSince the beginning of January, 2015, we have noticed an increase in the amount of digital authentication letters issued by the FBI and the FBI Channelers.  These digital letters, which are signed by Kimberly J. Del Greco or William G. McKinsey, will be e-mailed to you.  If you prefer, you can request a hard copy to be sent to your location.  An FBI Channeler is unable to mail these letters to our office.

If you have not already submitted your fingerprints directly to the FBI, we recommend that you contact an FBI Channeler to help expedite the background check process.  Submitting your fingerprints directly to the FBI can take months to process.  With an FBI Channeler, the average processing time is 4-5 days.

Here is the most recent announcement from the FBI concerning their delays:

On September 7, 2014, CJIS installed a new IT system. As a result of this installation, we are experiencing delays in processing. Please be assured that each issue is being identified and resolved as quickly as possible, but at this time anticipated processing time for an Identity History Summary is approximately 14-16 weeks. Allow additional time for mail delivery.

We recommend that you contact an FBI Channeler in order to avoid any delays in processing your fingerprints.

Here is an example of an FBI digital authentication letter sent to you by e-mail:

The benefits of receiving your digital authentication letter by e-mail will help reduce the amount of time it takes to Apostille your FBI criminal background check.  As of January, 2015, the current processing time with the U.S. Department of State is 3-4 business days.  As soon as you receive this digital letter by e-mail, you can forward it to our office for processing.

If you decide to print this letter yourself, we recommend that you use a high-quality color laser printer.  Be sure to include our FBI apostille order form and credit card authorization form with your document in order to avoid any delays.

International Apostille Services, Inc. is the leader in document authentication services in Washington, D.C.  We process hundreds of U.S. Government documents through the U.S. Department of State every month.  Call us M-Sa. from 8am to 7pm.  You can also Contact Us through our website.

FBI Criminal Background Check for Panama

On August 12, 2013, the Panamanian (Panama) Embassy website posted the following information concerning obtaining an FBI Criminal Background Check for residency in Panama.

Panama is now requiring a Federal FBI Identification Record for purposes of obtaining Residency in Panama. This criminal background check/criminal history record/rap sheet can no longer be just from the state in which you last resided.

Note: The criminal background check record from the local police, Department of Justice (State Background Check), or Sheriff’s Department can no longer be used.  You must first contact an FBI Channeler to help expedite the background check process.  They will mail to your home or office the authentication letter printed on a special tamper resistant paper (Example of FBI authentication letter is below).

Obtaining an FBI Apostille cannot be done at the US Embassy in Panama because they do not have access to the data files that would allow signature comparisons for this purpose.  If the FBI finds no record, you will receive a “no record” response. If you do have a criminal history record on file, you will receive your Identification Record or “rap sheet.”  Typically, a rap sheet is a minimum of two pages long.

To use the FBI Record in Panama, you must specifically request it to be FBI-Certified when you contact the FBI Channeler.  The FBI Channeler will return the documents directly to you when completed (by mail), but it will not yet be Apostilled for legal use in PanamaThe following note will accompany the record:

The FBI’s CJIS Division has authenticated the enclosed U.S.Dept of Justice Order 556-73 finger print search results…. If you require an Apostille, you must submit this authenticated document to the U.S. Dept of State (DOS) for further action.

You will need to mail the authentication letter to our office in Washington, D.C. for processing.  The processing time is currently 3-4 business days (As of January 2015).  Please allow 1-2 business days for the return FedEx/UPS shipping.  If you require international shipping, please contact us for a price quote.
